‘Designing the Lush Dry Garden’ Feature

October 28 , 2025

We’re delighted to share that the Archdale Residence is featured in the new book Designing the Lush Dry Garden by Cricket Riley, Alice Kitajima, and Kier Holmes, with photography by Caitlin Atkinson.

Originally designed by Richard Neutra in 1951, the Archdale Residence is a renovated mid-century modern home. Garrett Eckbo’s original landscape drawings illustrate a thoughtful response to the site’s sloping terrain and native oak groves.

PB&Co collaborated with the Client, Architectural Historian, Contractor, and Arborist to research the original design concepts, evaluate which aspects of the landscape to preserve, and reinterpret the spaces to accommodate the current family’s needs.

We’re so grateful to the authors of Designing the Lush Dry Garden for featuring this one-of-a-kind project in their beautiful publication!
