Providence Cedars Sinai
Tarzana Medical Center
Tarzana, CA
The design team provided master planning, followed by full design services, of a comprehensive upgrade to the 13 acre Providence Cedars Sinai Tarzana medical campus, encompassing the Main Entry, an additional Parking Structure, Paseo Walkway, Patient Wing, Healing Garden, Emergency Department, Central Utility Plant, and Diagnostic and Treatment expansion and renovation. The goal was to create an organic and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Evergreen, resilient Holly Oaks and Arbutus line the Entry Drive and pedestrian walks. Flowering Evergreen Magnolias add accents at building entries.
The tree-lined, lighted pedestrian Paseo from parking to the Main Entry provides wayfinding and includes small, shaded destinations with seating along the path.
The Healing Garden is located in a protected and quiet spot at the heart of the campus. A center green, shaded with a flowering Magnolia tree and plentiful seating, invites visitors, patients and staff to an outdoor area full of life, color and natural light. A well-loved statue of the Venerable Sister Mary Potter, founder of The Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, a 19th Century medical charity on this site, watches over the space.
Paving patterns in arcs of colored concrete and large aggregate exterior terrazzo, work in tandem with the architectural design. Custom benches with Ipe seats embedded in concrete bases provide pockets of seating along the curved paving and planted beds.
The welcoming ER Entry includes colorful native planting, custom seating and shade.
