Dahlia Heights Elementary School
Los Angeles, CA
A charming, well-loved elementary school on 2 acres in Eagle Rock is transformed into a colorful and welcoming space with the addition of the new two-story classroom building and associated improvements to the open spaces.
Cool coat colors are coordinated with the architecture to highlight building accents and emphasize playground attributes. Supergraphics highlight the school flower on the handball court and a grassy field beckons soccer players. The LAUSD standard Hip Hop Show Down game becomes the center of campus, doubling as colorful spots for classroom line-ups and morning meetings.
Evergreen Cork and Holly Oaks are added to make shady seating nooks. Organic vegetable beds, pollinator garden and fruit trees populate a learning garden space, with picnic tables and a stormwater tank for irrigation.
