Pamela Burton & Company (PB&Co) is an internationally recognized landscape architecture firm that specializes in integrating the disciplines of art, architecture, and landscape. Founded in 1975, the firm offers planning and comprehensive landscape design for civic, institutional, commercial, and residential clients.

The company combines a passion for plant materials with a sincere interest in the history of landscape architecture to create designs that evolve from a site’s cultural and physical environment.  Each design is informed by a site’s geography, ecology, and history.  Spatial organization is created by focusing on how people move through a place, how a series of spaces is connected, how objects and materials frame and form the proportions of a project.  Aesthetic sensitivity is balanced by an interest in the symbolic nature of the built environment and a commitment to sustainable landscape design.

PB&Co is committed to environmental sustainability and is dedicated to the health and wellbeing of both people and the planet. We strive to incorporate sustainable design features such as rainwater harvesting for irrigation, bioswales and rain gardens to recharge groundwater reserves, a biodiverse and drought resilient plant palette to protect habitat, and light colored permeable paving and shade trees to reduce the heat island effect into every project.

The firm’s work has been featured in numerous publications and tours including Regional Landscape Architecture: Southern California: Mediterranean Modern published in 2019 and The Cultural Landscape Foundation Tours in 2022.  Princeton Architectural Press published a monograph of the firm’s work, Pamela Burton Landscapes, and Burton co-authored with Marie Botnick, Private Landscapes:  Modernist Gardens in Southern California.  The firm’s work has been honored with 34 awards over the past 5 years.
