The proposed Medical Center Landscape Site Plan provides a variety of welcoming garden spaces for visitors, patients and staff. The introduction of large stately trees creates shade for pedestrians and identity to buildings. Major project entries from Clark Street and Burbank Boulevard are upgraded and highlighted with special landscaping and signage. A new landscaped median at the main patient drop-off and entry to the Hospital is planted with evergreen shade trees and colorful groundcovers. A Healing Garden tucked between the new Nursing Tower and the existing Medical Center offers a protected, quiet space for families and patients, full of shade, colorful foliage and non-allergenic flowers. A smaller garden, north of the existing parking structure and across from the new ER drop off, provides additional outdoor seating for visitors and staff. The addition of wide canopy shade trees planted in parking lot medians and borders help to reduce the heat island effect caused by extensive parking lot paving. A pedestrian walkway, shaded by trees and an overhead canopy, provides a clear path for visitors and staff to the Medical Center main entry from the new parking lot and both the new and existing parking structures.
