STEPHEN BILLINGS, ASLA, AIA, LEED Green Associate
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Stephen Billings has over sixteen years of design and project management experience within the fields of architecture and landscape architecture. Having worked with Richard Meier and Partners, Architects, and with Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Landscape Architects, his understanding of what it takes to design, detail, manage and construct buildings and landscapes has developed into a commitment to working with architects and urban designers to create dynamic social spaces in the landscape.
Stephen is focused on landscape architectural design that incorporates ecology, water resource management, and sustainable design practices to produce performative landscapes. His design sensibility is focused on amplifying the experience and perceptions of exterior space through manipulations of topography, plant materials and built form.
Stephen has managed residential projects in Los Angeles, the Hudson River Valley, and Mexico City, as well as renovations of the roof gardens and streetscape at Rockefeller Center in New York, large commercial projects in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and large institutional projects such as The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles and the Valley Performing Arts Center at California State University, Northridge, and the Jacobs Medical Center at the University of California, San Diego.
He has taught landscape architecture at the Harvard University Career Discovery Program and the Otis College of Art and Design. He has served on architecture and landscape architecture design juries at University of California, Los Angeles, Southern California Institute of Architecture, University of Southern California, and Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He is also interested in bringing awareness of landscape architecture in Southern California. In the summer of 2011 he curated the New Park Design in Los Angeles show at the LA Urban Forum.
